Summarizing and Note Taking:
Discussion Forums

Discussion Forums provide students with the opportunity for open dialogue in an online environment.  Generally a topic of discussion is posted, and students are given the chance to respond to the discussion through threaded posts.  They help students synthesize course material and help build the feeling of class community.  Wikispaces includes a discussion forums section as a component of each wiki.  As well, many Learning Management Systems have discussion forums integrated into their services.
